What should I wear? (family session/engagement session) ahh, the 10million dollar question! Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Try and stay away from solid white or a heavy pattern. For an engagement session or portrait session, I highly recommend bringing a few different outfits – maybe one casual and one dressy? For the girls- perhaps a pop of color in the form of a fun shoe? for the guys- maybe try wearing a fun vest with your shirt? But most importantly please wear what you feel comfortable in and remember that we will have a great time!
How long have you been shooting? I have been pursuing photography for a little over 10 years-starting in film classes in high school, first learning nature photography, and now focusing entirely on lifestyle photography. I have a passion for capturing those true relational moments in people’s lives—and I strive to show that in my photography.
Do I have to have an engagement session? No you do not, however I highly recommend having one (especially since they are included in your wedding package!). They give us the chance to work together and get used to each other (you with my shooting style and for me with how to best make you feel comfortable in front of the camera). Plus, I love meeting my clients and getting to know them, but the real sweetness is the rad images you will have!
How exactly do you “shoot” an event? I love to capture the real you. I love getting to truly know my clients- not just a business transaction, but to really get to know you- lets be real here…. this is your wedding. I am passionate about my couples, I want to incorporate every ounce of YOU in the images. I do this by getting to know you, what makes you tick- what you love as a couple and as individuals. It’s not surprising to see me climbing or crawling around to get the “shot”. We are ultimately trying to capture the interaction between you and your loved ones. The real smiles and making each other laugh. I may direct you some, or make suggestions; however I stay away from too many “formal” images. I am a lifestyle photographer and I love to be truly artistic in my images- and I strive to make truly memorable images for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.
The best light to shoot in is just before sunset or just after sunrise, so we should schedule the shoot for an hour and a half before sun down.
Additional Answers & Advice:
1. When looking around for a potential wedding or family photographer, make sure that they are truly passionate about what they do. What I mean by this is– is their Heart in it? When you meet/ talk with them can you sense the excitement of shooting your event? Do you click? Do you like them? Do you like their style of photos? Remember for most couples your photographer is going to be with you all day on your wedding- it should be more than just a business interaction. Always ask to see a full wedding covered by your potential photographer. Websites display our best work but it is important for clients to see the full range of images that they will receive for their own wedding. At Erin Michelle Photography, there are public galleries for clients to view an actual wedding, start to finish.
2. Know what you are paying for. It is vital for clients to understand what is involved in the investment of professional wedding photography.
